The Role of Propolis and Beeswax in Raw Honey

If you look closely at a jar of NIYANTA raw honey, you might notice that it isn't perfectly clear. There may be a fine cloudiness or tiny specks suspended in the golden liquid. To the untrained eye, these might look like impurities. In reality, these particles—mainly pollen, propolis, and beeswax—are the most medicinal parts of the honey.

What is Propolis?

Propolis, often called "bee glue," is a sticky resin that bees collect from tree buds. They use it to seal cracks in the hive and sterilize the entrance. Propolis is intensely antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. In raw honey, microscopic traces of propolis provide a significant boost to your immune system, making it an excellent remedy for winter colds.

The Importance of Minimal Filtration

As outlined in our guide on over-processed honey, commercial brands use high-pressure, ultra-fine filters to remove these particles entirely, resulting in a dead, transparent syrup. At NIYANTA, we only use gravity straining to remove large debris, ensuring every jar is packed with the natural goodness of the hive.
