Gujarat is known for its scorching summers. When temperatures soar above 40°C, bees spend vast amounts of energy collecting water just to cool their hives. During these harsh months, floral nectar dries up. While unethical commercial farms might feed their bees cheap sugar syrup to keep production high, ethical beekeepers must ensure they leave enough honey in the hive during the spring harvest to sustain the colony through the summer. Monsoon Protection
Heavy monsoons present another hurdle. Bees cannot fly in heavy rain, meaning they are confined to the hive. Protecting the wooden apiary boxes from moisture and fungal rot while ensuring the colony has enough food reserves is crucial for their survival.
